What is an All Abilities Plan?

Under the Victorian Disability Act, every council in Victoria is required to have a four-year Disability Action Plan. The plan must set out actions to ensure that people with a disability have the opportunity to access community facilities and participate in community life.

What is the City of Kingston's role?

Council is responsible for delivering a wide range of community infrastructure, programs and services. For example, libraries, playgrounds, parks, footpaths, some roads, public swimming pools, and community centres.

Council can support groups within the community, like sports clubs, who are looking to broaden their membership to include people of a broader range of abilities.

Council can advocate to other levels of government on issues such as education and public transport.

What has the community told us already?

When we developed our Community Vision, over 3,500 people got involved! It set out the long-term goals of our community. One of the guiding principles was that Kingston is a “respectful, inclusive and diverse community”.

We have used the recommendations from the Vision, along with feedback from the broader community to develop the Council Plan 2021-25, Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2021-25 and Financial Plan.

What is the role of the Co-Design Team?

To help guide the plan we have put together a Co-Design Team of 18 local people who have a disability or care for someone with a disability. Their role is to help us consult widely to reflect the different needs and voices of people with disability in Kingston.
