Consultation has concluded

Kingston Council is planning a major capital investment to upgrade Dingley Village sporting facilities to serve the community for years to come.

We are pleased to advise that Council is continuing its investment in local sport with planning for improvements at Chadwick Reserve and Dingley Recreation Reserve now underway.

Council is looking to provide improved sporting facilities at Chadwick Reserve to meet growing demand for junior AFL facilities (see draft plan included in the document library on the right of this page).

It is proposed to provide:

  • a new, larger pavilion replacing the current aged building featuring female-friendly change rooms, disability access, umpire’s facilities and a community room
  • improved playing surface on the junior AFL/cricket oval and training area
  • lighting for the playing areas
  • new playground and shared paths.

Project details:

The draft proposal for improvements at Chadwick Reserve includes:

1.Renewal of existing playground in its current location and at a future date consult with the community regarding desired range of play elements to suit a broad range of users.

2. Create granitic sand shared paths (2.4m wide) to improve pedestrian and cycling access to and within the Reserve. Ensure path alignment includes an adequate east-west connection from Howard Road to proposed Mordialloc Bypass Shared Trail, as well as defined access points from adjacent residential streets.

3. Address local demand for AFL participation by creating a junior sized AFL/cricket sportsground (126 x 112m) including new floodlighting, fencing and coaches boxes. NB: This surface conversion does not involve any loss of existing vegetation.

4. Provide a new sports pavilion (in same location as existing sports pavilion) which complies with AFL Victoria and Cricket Victoria facility standards i.e. 4 change rooms, umpires room, kiosk, community meeting space, unisex amenities, storage and undercover spectator area.

5. Upgrade turf surface /drainage /irrigation /floodlighting on eastern sportsground to provide a multisport surface for organised sports club training use, as well as casual/informal ball sports and recreation activities.

6. Renew existing car park and access road to/from Howard Road. On-site car park capacity is 62 spaces. There are also 72 unrestricted car parking spaces available within 200m of the Reserve on Howard Road.

7. Retain existing dog off-leash area at Western end of Reserve. Consider inclusion of dog exercise/agility equipment and fencing where appropriate, to delineate the space.

8. Improve overall Reserve amenity through the use of landscape design, consistent park furniture and improved visitor amenities.

Guest Book

Let us know your thoughts about the proposed upgrades to sporting and recreation at Chadwick Reserve.

What elements would you like to see at the upgraded playground?

Are you likely to use the new shared paths within the reserve, and in the broader area once they link to pathways that will run alongside the new Mordialloc Freeway?

Would you like to see any changes to the dog off-lead area such as fencing or dog agility equipment?

We would like you to consider cricket training nets. The only available nets are at the current ground at Souter oval. Nothing for the kids to practice in this side of Dingley

Dingley has 3 big primary Schools, so there are A LOT of kids in Dingley! A nice large morder, fenced playground suitable for all ages would be a dream!!

A decent sized play area for younger kids would be great. There is currently no good playground in Dingley for younger kids, especially one that is fenced stopping them running away!! A variety of play equipment for all abilities, similar to the new playgroup at Southern Road Reserve would be AMAZING.

Thank-you, the Dingley sporting community will welcome this initiative. Please could you also consider the following: A slightly larger ground than that planned would be more suitable for the older junior age groups (those players in the U/16 and U/17s are capable of kicking a football long distances and a larger ground will reduce congestion and injuries). Also a larger ground will better accommodate multiple teams training on the ground; no concrete or synthetic cricket pitch in order to avoid injuries to footballers; a digital electronic scoreboard; sufficient area outside of the playing arena to enable players to warm up whilst other games are in progress (this should include sufficient distance to kick a ball); the new building should be a 'clubhouse' that creates a feeling of 'belonging/home' for the players, parents and supporters. The clubhouse needs to be of sufficient size where large groups of people can meet, sit and have meals and where club memorabilia can be displayed. This will enhance the culture of the facility. Ideally the rooms should have an indoor exercise room during times of bad weather. Inside it would be beneficial to have whiteboards (mounted on walls?) to assist coaches and sufficient audio visual such as TVs, projectors and a PA system for public announcements. There needs to be a suitable viewing area for spectators that is undercover and raised if possible for better viewing. Seating around the permitter of the ground. Provision for sponsorship boards outside/inside as the clubs need to recognise their sponsors. These additional items will bring Dingley inline with other junior football clubs throughout the competition. Thanks.

What about The Dingley Tennis Club? Sees thiusands of players every year and has been left untouched for so long. Soon To loose major state championships due to the run down courts and facilities.
