Consultation has concluded

Background
Council has recently been working with Mentone Grammar regarding the installation of several proposed traffic treatments in Venice Street, Naples Road and Lucerne Street. A traffic study showed that the treatments outlined below will provide an increase in pedestrian and vehicle safety, and improved traffic flow within the area. The proposed changes will deliver an overall positive outcome for local schools and the wider community of Mentone.

Proposed traffic treatments
Council seeks your feedback on the following proposed traffic treatments: (please see plans in the document library for more detail)

1. Proposed indented bus bay on Venice Street to enable parking for five buses at a time. A section of Nature Strip and five trees will be removed as part of the works. To offset the removal, a minimum of 25 new trees will be planted across the Mentone Grammar site. The indented bay will provide parking for buses off the roadway.

2. Proposed raised splitter island on the approach to the existing roundabout between Naples Road and Venice Street. The islands will assist pedestrians to cross the roads safely and provide motorists with a clearer indication of the approaching intersection.

3. Proposed two new raised speed humps and crossings along Lucerne Street. The existing pedestrian school crossing will be raised, and speed humps will be added. The second raised crossing and speed humps will be located closer to Naples Road. These raised crossings will serve as a visual cue to drivers, indicating a formal crossing point and will also deter speeding.
