We're responding to community concerns about pedestrian and driver safety in Argus Street, Cheltenham.

Background

In response to community concerns, we are seeking your feedback on a proposed speed reduction in Argus Street, Cheltenham, particularly around Le Page Primary School and throughout Argus Street.

To better understand and respond to these concerns, Council has already sought feedback from local residents on proposed speed limit changes.

We are now extending this consultation to visitors and residents of surrounding areas to ensure the needs of the wider community are also considered.

Proposed changes

Council is proposing to permanently reduce the speed limit throughout Argus Street and Friendship Square from 50 km/h to 40 km/h. This change aims to lower vehicle speeds, discourage reckless driving and create a safer environment for all road users.

In addition to this proposed speed reduction, Council will proceed with safety improvements near Le Page Primary School, including:

• installing additional speed humps and kerb outstands near the existing children’s crossing

• adjusting the layout of the indented parking spaces to improve visibility and safety.

You can view a map of the proposed changes on the right-hand side of this page.
