Thank you to everyone who participated in the Accessible Beach Path Trial at Aspendale Foreshore. We are pleased to share that the trial was a success and will now be expanded to three additional locations along our foreshore.

Following the positive outcomes of the trial, we will be installing new accessible beach pathways at Mentone, Mordialloc, and Chelsea, as part of our ongoing commitment to creating more inclusive public spaces.

Thank you for your contributions and feedback, we're looking forward to providing better access to the sand and water for all members of our community.

As part of our commitment to creating accessible and inclusive public spaces, we are trialling an accessible beach pathway at the Aspendale foreshore.

We have 13km of coastline stretching from Mentone in the north to Carrum in the south, with existing accessibility infrastructure - such as ramps and promenades - providing access to the foreshore. However, while beach matting is available at various locations when Lifesaving Clubs are open, this infrastructure currently stops at the sand, making it challenging for all members of our community to reach the beach and water at all times.

To address this, we are trialling a new accessible beach path that will extend from the existing wheelchair ramp at Gnotuk Carpark in Aspendale and provide improved access to the sand and water.

This proposed path will be constructed from fibre-reinforced plastic grating, designed to minimise impact on the natural environment and remain compatible with our beach raking operations.

Our aim for the trial is to help improve access for all residents, so they can enjoy our beaches.

The trial will also include a maintenance and inspection period to help determine the long-term suitability of the materials and approach for use at other locations along the foreshore.
