Boatshed and Bathing Box Policy
This consultation has concluded
The City of Kingston is the appointed Committee of Management for the Foreshore under the Crown Land (Reserves) Act 1978.
As Committee of Management, it has the responsibility for 190 Boatshed and Bathing Boxes along the 13kms of the port Phillip Bay foreshore between Aspendale and Carrum.
Our Bathing and boatshed Policy is due for review, and we are seeking your thoughts on the new draft policy.
The key proposed amendments are:
Decks Steps Ramps
The current policy prohibits the construction of decks. The proposed changes would permit licensees to have either a deck, ramp, or steps, provided they do not extend their footprint and do not exceed 1.8 metres. Boatshed licensees with large decks or ramps pre the 2006 policy are to comply with the new policy upon transferring their boatshed.
Clearing Distances
An increase to a maximum clearing distance from 500mm to 700mm to 500mm to 1,000mm to clear sand and vegetation around boatsheds, and to assist with maintenance.
Reduced Licence Term
Reducing the licence term from nine years to three years, allowing officers and license holders more opportunity to discuss their boatshed and ongoing maintenance matters, to ensure compliance and safety.
The draft policy can be viewed under the documents tab on this page.
