Streetscape improvements at Centre Road/Melaleuca Drive, Clarinda
Consultation has concluded.
In an exciting new initiative, Council is planning permanent outdoor activation improvements to help create welcoming spaces where neighbourhood businesses can thrive and people can enjoy time with family and friends, while shopping locally. The initiative is part of the City of Kingston’s Outdoor Activation Program and is made possible under the State Government’s COVIDSafe Outdoor Activation Fund (Part B).
Council recognises that local shopping strips are where people like to engage with others and come together. We also know our Clarinda traders have done it tough in recent years and the development of these vibrant outdoor spaces may help attract more customers, while supporting them to operate in a COVIDSafe way.
Following an initial consultation with local traders, Council has developed a draft concept plan and would now like your feedback on the design.
Proposed improvements in front of the shops between 1194 -1216 Centre Road, Clarinda include:
• Social gathering space for the local community with two seating options, a new pram ramp for easy access and new bike racks
• New disabled car parking space, new parking for motorbikes and new wheel stops added to existing car parking spaces
• Tree and garden bed planting to provide shade and improve streetscape appearance
• Opportunity for painting on existing footpath (design to be determined)
