Our Visual Art and Heritage Collections reflect and support Kingston's evolving identity. We want to ensure our collections are managed responsibly, and that they are accessible and meaningful to the community.

We manage several Collections of significance, including our:

  • Heritage Collection
  • Visual Art Collection
  • Monuments and Memorials

Our draft Visual Art & Heritage Collections Policy and Guidelines 2025 outline what we collect and why. It sets out the procedures for how items are acquired and cared for and considers how items are made publicly accessible. It also provides a process for removing items from the collection.

When developing the policy and guidelines, Council officers, Governance and Policy Committee and our Legal team considered best practice guidelines from the National Standards for Australian Museums and Galleries, ICOM Code of Ethics and documents from peer councils.

Consultation closes Sunday 28 September at 5pm.

Your input will help us finalise the policy and ensure it reflects our community's priorities, values and future needs.

What happens next?

We’ll review your feedback and update the policy before it goes to Council for adoption later in 2025.
