Community gardens are communal spaces where people can come together to grow food and learn about gardening.

Kingston's Community Garden Policy helps community groups to understand more about the responsibilities and requirements involved in setting up and managing a community garden on Council-owned or managed land.

We are updating the Policy to outline the responsibilities of different departments in Council in relation to community gardens, and to make the Policy easier for community members to understand.

We'd love your input. Please take a moment to share your feedback on the Draft Community Garden Policy via the link below.

We’d like to thank everyone who provided feedback during our community consultation on Kingston’s Draft Community Garden Policy. We appreciate our community’s deep passion for shared spaces and promotion of accessible and inclusive areas, supported by well governed and communicated processes and policy.

To improve clarity and consistency for establishing new community gardens, we have separated the documents into policy and procedures.

The Community Garden Policy was endorsed at the October 2025 Council meeting.

You can view the final Community Garden Policy and Community Garden Procedures in the Documents library on the right-hand side of the project page.
