As part of Council's commitment to providing improved sporting facilities at Dingley Reserve, we are redeveloping the sports pavilion to meet the growing demand for cricket and AFL facilities and provide more sporting and community facilities for the Dingley community.

This $7.1 million project is a collaboration between Council ($2.5M), the Victorian State Government ($4.5M), AFL Victoria, Cricket Australia/Victoria and the resident clubs.

Local sporting groups: Dingley Cricket Club, Dingley Junior Football Club and the Dingley Football and Netball Club, will be the major beneficiaries of the new pavilion that will meet contemporary sporting code requirements and provide flexible spaces to support the clubs to grow and thrive through building connections with the local community.

When completed the facility will be a welcoming, inclusive, family friendly environment, and a safe community space for all ages, genders, abilities, and backgrounds.

Key features

  • Refurbishment and integration of the existing change room facility including new umpires change rooms.
  • Construction of a new two-storey pavilion that will include additional change rooms, new multipurpose room, kitchen and community space, kiosk, and public toilets. The new pavilion will also have an elevated open terrace viewing platform.
  • Relocation of the cricket storage shed closer to the cricket nets.
  • Pathways and landscaping surrounding the new pavilion.

Timeframes

A new contractor has been appointed, and construction will re-commence in early 2024, with the project now set to be completed later that year. Work will predominantly occur between 7am and 5pm weekdays.

Facility management

The new pavilion facilities will be managed under lease by the Dingley Sports Club who will work in consultation with the tenant Cricket and Football Netball Clubs.

As part of the Clubs lease arrangement, a Venue Management Plan will be developed which outlines the roles and responsibilities of the Club throughout their lease period.

The objectives of the plan are to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, support effective day-to-day management, ensure the safety of members and visitors and to minimise the impacts of the facilities operation with surrounding residents.
