Consultation has concluded.
This consultation closed on Sunday 12 May. Thank you for sharing your feedback! The final design is now available for viewing.
Please also note the following adjustments to the draft design based on community feedback:
Monkey bars, a horizontal/turnover bar, and a rocker will be added to the combination unit
More tree planting for natural shade
In-fill mesh fencing on the existing fence, particularly near the basketball court area (to help prevent balls from rolling onto Dowling Road)
A dog bowl at the new drinking fountain
Resurface the existing basketball half-court area with new asphalt surfacing, line-marking, a new post, backboard, and hoop pending approval from Melbourne Water
Refurbish two existing picnic tables close to the shelter
An extra picnic table and platform bench near the playground
Two new seats with backrests and armrests
Replace the senior climbing unit with a linear climbing unit and slide to allow for more open green space (due to Melbourne Water easement)
The circular path will be moved to allow for more open green space
Colourful line-marking on the new circular path so younger children can use it as a ‘learn to ride’ track
Construction
Construction on the playground is due to commence in autumn 2025 and will take approximately 15 weeks to complete, weather permitting.
We’re excited to be planning for the upgraded playground at Dowling Road Reserve in Oakleigh South! A draft design has been developed, and we would like to know your thoughts.
The new playground area has been designed to offer an inclusive experience and play environment for all. Highlights include:
Nature play
Trampolines
Climbing net with slide
Tri-swing set with basket swing
Combination unit suitable for junior and senior children
New footpath and circuit path
New park furniture and drinking fountain
The existing BBQ and picnic shelter will be retained and refurbished. Additional trees and landscaping improvements are proposed and included in the draft design to provide natural shade and screening.
We're currently investigating refurbishment options for the half-court area with Melbourne Water (the landowner) and will report on the outcome soon.
