Draft Economic Development Strategy

Thank you for your feedback on the Draft Economic Development Strategy. The Strategy was adopted by Council in the meeting held on August 26, 2024.

Earlier this year, over 300 of our residents and business owners had their say about the future of our local economy - and it's clear: you want Kingston to thrive just as much as we do!

Through stakeholder workshops, complemented by community pop-ups and an online survey, we connected with a diverse range of residents and local businesses across Kingston.

We consulted with our community to understand what they consider to be priority areas for improvement and invited them to share ideas to help Kingston grow and thrive. Detailed feedback revealed that the community wants to see:

• Upgrades to our retail streetscapes
• Activation and promotion of our strip shopping centres to attract visitors, investment, and workers
• Helping small businesses to grow and succeed by providing business support and networking opportunities

A draft Economic Development Strategy has now been developed and we want to ensure it meets the community's needs now and in the future.

This draft Strategy is structured around four key themes. Each theme sets out clear directions for how we will work alongside local businesses, industry groups, and other levels of government to grow our economy.

1 - Strong local economy

Kingston's economy continues to see economic growth as industries diversify and leverage new opportunities.

2 - A business location of choice

Our network of businesses, skilled workers and engaged leaders fosters a highly desirable place to locate and do business.

3 - A destination for experiences

Kingston's diverse calendar of events, local food and shops and unique natural assets attract residents and visitors alike.

4 - Inviting and lively places

Through successful placemaking, enhance our public spaces through collaborative design, activation and building on each centre's individual strengths.
