Kingston Council is currently reviewing the future of its Family Day Care service.

The review has been sparked by:

  • ongoing reduction in the number of sub-contracted educators supported by Kingston which has dramatically declined in recent years, down from 90 at its peak to just 29 educators today. This decline is expected to continue.
  • demand for Family Day Care from the community has also decreased over recent years with vacancies in most areas of Kingston.
  • Availability of numerous not for profit and private Family Day Care service co-ordinators that educators could join.

How can I input into the review?
To assist in the review, we are asking all educators to complete a short survey (below) to share your views.
The survey will be open until Thursday 21 August.
(All families enrolled will also be asked to provide feedback.)

When will the results of the review be known?
Your feedback will help inform the review, which is expected to be considered at the September Council meeting. The review report will be listed closer to the time via Council Agenda paper and the meeting can be watched in person or via live stream.

We will provide a further update following the September Council Meeting to keep you informed. If Council decides to make any changes to the Family Day Care service or decides to no longer operate Family Day Care in future, educators and families will be provided with plenty of notice and support before changes are implemented.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact A/Family, Youth and Children’s Services Manager Donna Feore by emailing donna.feore@kingston.vic.gov.au
