Update on the proposal to install lighting at Farm Road Reserve in Cheltenham
As part of the Council's commitment to providing quality parks and open spaces for the whole community, we recently sought feedback on the proposal to install lighting at Farm Road Reserve in Cheltenham to improve visibility along the Reserve path.
Thank you to everyone who provided feedback as part of the recent consultation. We’ve received several queries regarding the proposed lighting design, particularly around potential impacts on wildlife and nearby residents. The queries have been considered and we are taking the following steps:
Lighting will be focused on the path with minimal spill, using shielding to reduce impact on residents and wildlife.
Hydro excavation will be used to install the lighting with minimal disturbance to vegetation and surroundings.
Smart technology will allow remote monitoring and adjustment to ensure lighting is only used when needed.
Lights will operate mainly at dawn and dusk during winter to balance safety and energy use.
Council will continue to monitor the lighting and make changes if needed to support safety and environmental protection.
Following majority support from the local community, the installation of 12 lights along the popular pedestrian pathway within the reserve will be proceeding.
Project details
Early works will commence in mid-July with installation works commencing in late-August. Installation will take approximately 2 weeks to complete, weather permitting.
During construction access to the reserve and pathway will be maintained. Temporary fencing and signage will be installed around the work zones for the safety of the community. We apologise for any inconvenience and will minimise disruption wherever possible, while maintaining a safe work site.
