Council’s current Gambling Policy and Action Plan 2014-2019 was developed in response to changes in legislation in the gambling industry and Council’s concern about the negative impacts of high-risk gambling experienced by the Kingston community.
The Gambling Policy is being renewed in 2020. This consultation seeks community input to help Council identify and articulate its current position in relation to gambling. The policy update will consider this in alignment with changes in the industry and Council's advocacy position demonstrated through the Pokies Advocacy Campaign.
We encourage you to browse the content provided on this page to learn more about gambling harm in Kingston.

I have family and friends who started off just enjoying a flutter at the pokies. Now addicted. It is a disease. They think of nothing but getting to the pokies. Cannot enjoy doing other things, unless they know they can go to the pokies soon. All of these people are POOR. Living off the pension. Please do not allow more pokies in our city. In fact, I would like to see the pokies taken out of all venues in the City of Kingston - imagine that might be hard to do.

Yesterday at Probus Mentone we had a lady speak on this subject, The numbers she quoted and the thought of the pain and suffering people are going through with this addiction if mind blowing. Walking thru these venues it is plain that we are not supplying enough things for people to do especially during the day.. I noted that NSW figures were not as bad as VIc is it because they have bands and dancing in there clubs. Anything that can take you away from the machines and fill in there days should be investigated
