Background
Council is responding to community concerns about high traffic speeds and road safety on Bourke Road between Rosella Avenue and Springs Road.
Council has undertaken a study of traffic in this section of Bourke Road. The study confirmed high traffic speeds and flows as well as a high number of pedestrians crossing Bourke Road.
Council Action
Earlier this year Council sought resident feedback on the following proposals:
Add a speed hump to the existing informal pedestrian crossings at Andrew Court, 122 Bourke Road and Clarinda Retirement Village. This will reduce vehicle speeds at the crossing points and improve pedestrian safety.
Convert the crossing at Elder Street South to a formal zebra crossing with a speed hump, given its connection to Clarinda Shopping Centre and the bus stop
Installation of a kerb outstand at the crossing at Springs Road to reduce the crossing distance for pedestrians.
To help support these traffic calming measures, Council also proposed reducing the speed limit of Bourke Road between Clarinda Road and Clayton Road from 60km/h to 50km/h.
Have Your Say
Council is now seeking input from motorists and the broader community.
