Consultation has concluded

Our community assets are currently valued at approximately $1.7 billion.

These include (but aren't limited to):

  • 618km of local roads
  • 1144kms of footpaths and bike paths
  • 819 kms of stormwater pipes (and other stormwater drainage)
  • 116 Playgrounds
  • Public lighting
  • 240 buildings (including 8 libraries, community centres, Kingston City Hall and sports pavilions), and
  • 94 sports grounds.

We also manage natural assets, including:

  • Foreshore areas
  • Natural bushland reserves,
  • Open spaces and parks.

We manage these through inspections and maintenance, planning for new assets, replacing what we have, renewal, upgrades and disposing of assets when they are no longer required.

We're about to embark upon developing an Asset Plan 2025–2034 to guide the management of these assets over the next 10 years.

Challenges

With a growing population, we are forecasting that an extra 30,000 people will live in Kingston by 2041, which will mean more demand for our assets. But we face a number of challenges including:

  • Some of our older infrastructure needing rehabilitation works or additional maintenance to keep them operational.
  • Cost increases for raw materials requiring us to do more with less money.
  • Climate Change creating more frequent severe weather events, increasing the need for upgraded assets.

We want to hear from you to address current asset issues and identify key priorities for Council's future investment.

Background

In 2021 we worked closely with our community to develop a new Community Vision and key guiding plans. We worked with an independently selected representative Community Panel who spent over 2,000 hours reviewing feedback from the community, along with trends and other data to develop our new Community Vision and make recommendations for the city's strategic plans.

Their recommendations helped with the development of a suite of long-term plans for Council, which included our Asset Plan 2021-2031.

This work needs to be reviewed closely every four years. But before we commence deliberations over our Asset Plan, we want to hear more about what matters to you.
