We're seeking community feedback on Kingston's Key Design Moves for the proposed level crossing removals in Highett. We'll be speaking up on behalf of our community to ensure the best outcomes are delivered as part of the Victorian Government's project.
It would remove Highett’s level crossings at Highett Road and Wickham Road by 2029
A new elevated rail bridge is proposed to remove the level crossings and includes the delivery of a new Highett Station.
No further announcements or designs for the level crossing removal project have been released, however with precinct planning also occurring on the state government’s Suburban Rail Loop, Kingston has developed some early design ideas for the future level crossing removal that we would like to see included in the precinct planning work.
The Victorian Government has announced it is building a station for the planned SRL at Sir William Fry Reserve in Highett (next to Southland). The project also involves encouraging housing growth around the new station area. You can find out more about this project here.
These ideas seek to get the best outcomes for the community....and we want to know what you think.
If you have further questions about the project see the Level Crossing Removal website or if you wish to provide your feedback directly to the Level Crossing Removal Project team, contact them via the helpline on 1800 105 105.
What is Kingston's role?
The City of Kingston is not responsible for planning this project or its delivery, however we are speaking up on behalf of our community to make sure we get the best outcomes for Kingston and the broader Highett community. While this advocacy work focuses on the level crossing removals in Highett, it is also important that our design thinking considers other state government projects in the area.
Complete our survey to have your say!
We are keen to hear from a wide range of local residents, visitors, workers and businesses. We are asking for your feedback to help inform our advocacy to the Victorian Government. We need your input to help make sure this significant project is delivered with the best results for the community.
By taking part in our online survey you are helping Council understand what you think of our Key Design Moves.
Community feedback will be reported back to the Victorian Government and be used to help inform our final design advocacy document (called an Urban Design Framework).
Speak to us face-to-face at our pop-up engagement event on Tuesday 16 July from 11am – 1pm in the Highett shopping strip (look out for the Kingston banners)!
Making a further submission via email to info@kingston.vic.gov.au or mailing PO Box 1000 Mentone.
The consultation is open until Monday 22 July.
