Update on Council’s Electric Vehicle Charging Policy and Placement Plan (September 2026)

We're excited to share that electric vehicle charging is becoming more accessible in Kingston.
The City of Kingston continues to make steady progress in expanding its public electric vehicle (EV) charging network through three complementary delivery streams: Council-owned buildings and land, activity centres, and kerbside charging.
Following a competitive Expression of Interest process, Council has selected I-Charge Solutions as its preferred EV charging partner for Council-owned sites and has also signed an MOU with JOLT and I-Charge to explore fast-charging opportunities in Kingston’s activity centres. Council is progressing a staged rollout while continuing investigations into suitable charging locations across the municipality.
Over the next 12 months, Council aims to deliver chargers at Mordialloc Aquatic Centre, Dingley Village Hub, Namatjira Park and Westall Community Hub. These projects are progressing through detailed design and technical assessments.
In partnership with United Energy, Council is also facilitating a kerbside EV charging trial of up to 7 pole-mounted chargers across Kingston, in line with our commitment in the endorsed Plan to support residents without off-street parking or access to a garage for home charging.
The trial will commence via United Energy in September 2026, with chargers in the following locations:

When planning trial locations, consideration will be given to:
Proximity to medium and higher-density residential areas
Consider both current use and how future development will impact use (e.g. avoiding planned bicycle lanes)
Local EV adoption rates
Proximity to community amenities
Longer parking durations, generally four-hour parking or greater (with some two-hour parking locations)
Pole suitability, network constraints, and local distribution board capacity
Visibility and street lighting.
