Thank you for your feedback on the Draft Economic Development Strategy. The Strategy was adopted by Council in the meeting held on August 26, 2024.
We're drafting a new Economic Development Strategy to support the sustainable growth and development of Kingston's economy - but first, we want to hear from you!
Let's highlight the best of Kingston, strengthen connections between people and places, and support our local businesses by developing a strategy that aims to:
Boost jobs and wages
Attract investment
Encourage visitation
Revitalise local shopping centres
In order to achieve a more vibrant and resilient economic landscape for our community, we've partnered with a consultant to develop a future directions paper that takes a deep dive into Kingston's economic landscape, explores economic trends and insights and identifies specific 'needs' in four key areas:
1. Economic development
Support businesses move towards modern technologies and practices.
Ensure local employment, business ownership, and training opportunities are accessible to all residents.
Help businesses move towards more sustainable practices and energy-efficient technology.
2. Investment attraction
Update planning and management of commercial and industrial areas to support future growth.
Help entrepreneurs and small businesses grow and succeed by providing support and networking opportunities.
3. Place activation
Activate shopping centres to attract more visitors, investment, and workers.
Upgrade streetscapes and promote each centre as a destination.
4. Tourism and visitor economy
Grow our night-time economy with more events and entertainment options.
Showcase Kingston's unique attractions through marketing to boost tourism.

We're currently working with consultants to develop Kingston's Draft Employment Land Use Strategy to guide the use and development of our industrial and commercial precincts in Kingston. This work will feed into Kingston's Economic Development Strategy - particularly in regard to investment attraction.
