Background
The Victorian Government announced in July 2021 that it will be removing two additional Level Crossings in Kingston at Warrigal Road, Mentone and Parkers Road, Parkdale.
If you have further questions about the project see the Level Crossing Removal website or if wish to provide your feedback directly to the Level Crossing Removal Project team, contact them via the helpline on 1800 105 105.
What is Council's role? Council is not responsible for planning this project or its delivery, however we are speaking up on behalf of our community to make sure we get the best outcomes for Kingston.
Kingston Council conducted its own community consultation on the project in September 2021 to ensure community views on the project were heard by the LXRP.
Council formally requested the LXRP and the Victorian Minister of Transport Infrastructure conduct a robust community consultation process to inform the eventual design for the Parkers Road / Warrigal Road level crossing removals.
Kingston Council has also specifically requested that they share what information the government has to support its claim that “the initial engineering and technical assessment have determined a rail bridge over road to be the best solution”. To date, we have not yet had a response.
September 2021 - Council consultation
A number of other level crossings have been removed in Kingston. See the FAQ section for a description and photographs to illustrate the range of options used in the area in the past.
