Update - June 2023
We are pleased to share that the Chelsea Men’s Shed will soon have a permanent home at 71 Catherine Avenue, Chelsea. Council has appointed builder Simbuilt to refurbish the former Chelsea Kindergarten building to create the new home for the Men’s Shed.
A permanent home is proposed for the Chelsea Men’s Shed, who meet regularly to provide an opportunity for the local community to connect, socialise and participate in meaningful recreational activity. An important element of any Men’s Shed is a functional workshop space, offering a range of equipment and safe conditions for members to hone their existing skills or learn new ones.
The Council-owned property at 71 Catherine Avenue, Chelsea, (formerly Chelsea Kindergarten) has been identified as a suitable site to accommodate the Chelsea Men’s Shed. A range of refurbishments are proposed to repurpose the existing space. You can view the plans here or in the Document Library.
Following the updated fit-out, the building will include a secure workshop area, small flexible meeting and social space, and an area for technology and electronics. A kitchenette, office and accessible amenities are also included within the design.
Redevelopment of this vacant site will provide the opportunity for social connection and activity, which is an essential element of a healthy and thriving local community, and more important than ever as we begin to reopen post-COVID-19 restrictions.
Works are planned to begin mid-2022 and are likely to take approximately 4 months.
Consultation has now closed.
