Do you live, work, shop, or commute through Mentone? Do you have memories or stories about the area? This is your chance to hear four artists’ ideas for a permanent artwork in the Mentone Renaissance area, and to share your thoughts on how the artwork ideas could develop.
The Mentone Public Art Project aims to create a permanent artwork that both reflects, and is valued by, residents of Mentone and the broader Kingston community. The Kingston Arts and Cultural Advisory Committee (ACAC) have shortlisted four artists: Julie Shiels, Col Henry, Phin Murphy and Victoria Nelson, to attend a community consultation meeting 6-8pm Wednesday 27 February 2019, to assist them to develop their final designs. One artist will be selected to deliver the artwork by July 2019.
Each artist has been given 30 minutes to present and consult with community members to hear their values, thoughts and ideas surrounding Mentone. These will actively feed into the permanent artwork.
The community is invited to attend this consultation meeting and provide feedback on the artists' presentations. For catering purposes, please RSVP to Marcia Ferguson by Tuesday 26 February via marcia.ferguson@kingston.vic.gov.au.

The artists presented their final concepts to Council’s Arts and Cultural Committee on Tuesday 19 March. The successful artist, Julie Shield, was selected at following the meeting. Julie will create a piece which celebrates Mentone’s history and beach culture, as well as Italian culture. Led by international artist Paola Ibarra Llano in collaboration with the Kingston Arts Team, local Kilbreda College students are painting graphic designs onto a series of poles across Mentone, to complement the works underway.
