How will traffic and parking be impacted?

    The draft Master Plan seeks to consolidate all traffic from Spring Road. This will result in the closure of Newport Road to vehicle access (pedestrian access will be maintained). An overflow parking area able to accommodate an additional 50 car parks is identified on the Plan to accommodate forecast sporting demands.

    Why are the sports fields changing?

    Current sporting trends are moving away from the traditional AFL and cricket shared use. The proposed multi use sporting fields are designed to meet the needs of many sports. In addition to meeting the current needs of cricket and gridiron, the sporting fields may be used for soccer and AFL to accommodate increased demand from a growing population. 

    Will the turf wicket remain?

    Yes, the turf wicket is planned for upgrade and is shown as a five turf wicket table. The draft Master Plan does not propose that the new practice wicket facility will be natural turf. Consistent with facilities provided at other local sporting facilities, synthetic turf wicket practice facilities are proposed.

    Will there be any tree removals?

    To implement the draft Master Plan approximately 8 – 12 existing trees require removal. As part of planning for the draft Master Plan, Council has considered many alternatives to lessen the number of tree removals. Council will replace a minimum of three trees to everyone that is identified for removal. New tree planting will be a high priority for early delivery. 

    What is proposed in the new active recreation zone?

    Council is seeking to integrate and expand the current youth skate facilities, tennis and basketball facilities within a defined area. The proposed facilities within the new Active Recreation zone will include tennis courts (x2), basketball/netball, futsal courts activities, tennis rebound wall and improved skate/ scooter/ BMX infrastructure facilities. Similar facilities can be seen under the elevated railway line in Clayton.

    What is happening to the playground?

    The playground is planned for an upgrade to enhance its accessibility and provide nature play opportunities.

    Will the wetland area change?

    The wetland area will remain as is. Improvement to facilities, including path lighting, signage, seating, water fountains are proposed.
