Naples Road Drain and Beach Outlet Upgrade, Mentone
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on LinkedinEmail this link
As part of Council's investment in protecting our beautiful foreshore, the aging Naples Road drain will be renewed to improve its performance (existing drain pictured above). The upgrade works will also include the addition of a gross pollutant trap to reduce litter flow into the bay.
The existing 900mm diameter drainage pipe is undersized and no longer fit-for-purpose. A large storm event in December 2010 caused significant damage to the promenade and beach due to the lack of capacity within the existing pipe.
The renewal will help minimise the damage caused by flooding, protect the environment and enhance the Mentone Life Saving Club precint.
Drain design
Council is seeking community input on the design concepts for the new drain.
Concept 1 (natural approach):
Concept 2 (rectangular structure with handrail):
Mentone Life Saving Club Precinct
The drain is located approximately 75m south of the Mentone Lifesaving Club. Please see below for an indicative site map.
