We have partnered with Mentone Grammar to trial an Open Streets program on Lucerne Street from Sunday 11 October to Sunday 18 October 2026.
Open Streets is an event that creates a safe and welcoming space around the school gates for children, families and residents of the local street. It encourages families to walk or ride to school and enjoy being active in a safer, less traffic-congested environment.
What is changing?
During the trial a short section of Lucerne Street around the school crossing (between the Gate 6 Carpark and the Primary School entrance at Gate 11) will be temporarily closed to vehicle traffic for one week between Sunday 11 October and Sunday 18 October 2026.
Signage and pop-up infrastructure will be in place to indicate that the street is open for children and families to walk and ride. We expect a limited impact on traffic flow in surrounding streets during the trial and Council will monitor traffic to measure the impacts.
