Our Representative Community Panel and Collaborative Engagement Groups have completed their two-year term. We thank them for the significant difference they've made to our city's future.
Background
Following an extensive recruitment campaign for Kingston Represent at the beginning of 2023, we were delighted to have Kingston's Representative Community Panel (RCP) available and ready to provide feedback on projects/strategies throughout 2023 and 2024.
The RCP comprised of 220 community members, who formed a statistically representative group across our eleven wards - recruited by consultant Sortition Foundation.
The recruitment process also involved sign-ups for the deliberative engagement arm of the RCP, a Collaborative Engagement Group (CEG) of 40 members, who committed to meet regularly over 2023 and 2024 to discuss and share their feedback on complex local issues and key strategic plans.
Representative Community Panel (RCP)
During their time on the RCP, members participated in a series of quick polls, workshops and surveys that helped shape and inform several projects in 2023 and 2024, including our:
Play and active recreation
Open spaces
The new aquatic and leisure centre facility
Our new waste app 'Binston'
Soft plastics recycling
AccessCare
Electric vehicle charging stations
Men's Health activities
Activities for local community hubs, and
Feedback on the Victorian Government's Level Crossing Removal Projects.
Collaborative Engagement Group (CEG)
In 2024, we worked with the deliberative engagement arm of the RCP, the CEG, who were given the important task of developing recommendations that will help shape the following strategic documents in 2025:
Our Integrated Council Plan and Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan
10-year Asset Plan, and
Long-term Financial Plan.
This work is not only a legislative requirement, but also a really valuable way for us to check in with a representative group of our community to hear what matters to them.
Prior to commencing their strategic planning work in 2024, the CEG took a deep dive into our 'Play Your Way' strategy, suggested opportunities to inform the Arts Events and Library Strategy and provided recommendations for Councillor Position Descriptions and the Carbon Emissions Policy.
Our Representative Community Panel and Collaborative Engagement Groups have completed their two-year term. We thank them for the significant difference they've made to our city's future.
