An update on the Carrum Foreshore playground upgrade, Carrum

During summer 2025/26, we consulted with the local community on what you would like to see included in the Carrum Foreshore playground upgrade. Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate! We heard your feedback and have created a design to support your needs.

Based off feedback received we have:

  • Added a large spiral tube slide in response to requests for a big, twisty slide experience.
  • Included fine mist water play with push-button seasonal activation, reflecting the strong preference for water play.
  • Selected a combination unit with extensive climbing, scrambling, traversing, secret hideouts and tunnels to build balance, agility and coordination.
  • Retained and expanded sand play in response to requests for digging opportunities.
  • Added two new shade structures over the playspace, replacing existing structures following investigations that supported new installations.

The final design includes:

  • Main play tower and climbing
  • Banksia cubby
  • Main mound and mini mound slide
  • Swings (1x toddler & 2x flat seats)
  • Accessible bird's nest carousel and group rocker
  • Sand play, mist play with sandblasted concrete
  • Discovery art elements, bell lyre musical instrument, talking tubes
  • Shade sails, shelters, picnic settings, seats and upgraded fencing
  • Drink fountains and accessible dual barbeque

Due to limited space, some elements typical of this classification, like an active recreation zone, won’t be included. But we’re making sure every corner is packed with fun!

Forecourt improvements

Installed as part of the LXRP in 2020, we are now removing the rocks and waterplay at the centre of the forecourt and returning it to open space, along with installing new seating. The waterplay will be incorporated into the playground upgrade, as noted above.

We’re creating a playground where imagination runs wild, and every child can play their way. Picture slides, swings, climbing adventures, and plenty of space to have fun and explore!

Under our Play Your Way Strategy, Carrum Foreshore playground is classified as a District-level playground, and this exciting new space will include:

  • Picnic spaces, BBQs, drink fountains, and areas for social gatherings.
  • Accessible paths and play elements.
  • Imaginative, sensory, and social play opportunities.
  • Climbing structures, slides, and swings.
  • Nature play, art features, and garden beds.

Before we start designing, we want your ideas! What makes a playground awesome? Giant slides? Swirly swings? Secret hideouts? Tell us what you love (and what you don’t) so we can make this the coolest playground ever!

Have your say

At this early stage we are only seeking feedback on ways to play and types of equipment - and would love to hear how you like to play.

Have your say by completing the survey below.

You can also make submissions by emailing info@kingston.vic.gov.au or mailing PO Box 1000, Mentone 3194.

This consultation closed on Friday 30 January.
