We’re excited to be planning a new, high quality aquatic and leisure centre to help support the health and wellbeing of our community.

Designs for the new centre are well underway and we have six quick polls on travel, change rooms, water-play, fitness facilities, the café and barriers to visiting that we'd love to get your feedback on.

You views will help us refine a draft concept design, which will be released for your feedback in the coming months...and we can't wait to hear what you think!

You could also be one of 6 lucky winners who will receive a 10-visit swim pass to Waves, just for sharing your thoughts!

Background

The new aquatic and leisure centre will be built adjacent to Jack Grut Reserve on Governor Road in Mordialloc.

The creation of a new aquatic and leisure centre which is contemporary, accessible for all, and meets current standards is a significant project and investment for Council.

We've been working closely with an independently-selected Community Reference Group (CRG) who have been providing us with their local perspectives to help work through the design process.

CRG representatives recently presented their Vision, Purpose and Design Pillars for the centre to Council and CO.OP Studio (our architect). You can view their hard work here.

What's in the new centre?

You have told us us that variety, accessibility and sustainability are important in the design of the new centre and these key themes will all feature. The new centre will be fully electric to reduce emissions and accessible and welcoming to people of all abilities. The central elements of this indoor community aquatic centre include:

  • Four pools: multi-purpose lap swimming pool (50m), learn to swim pool, warm water exercise pool, and leisure pool
  • Gym and fitness facilities
  • Sauna and steam room
  • Café
  • Foyer, car parking, change rooms.
