Council has been working closely with Scouts Victoria on plans to extend and refurbish the 5th Mordialloc Scout Hall to improve the facilities and make them accessible for all.
The existing Scout Hall was built in the 1980s, has a poorly functioning layout and does not comply with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).
The proposed refurbishment includes:
Kitchen/bathroom upgrades, including DDA compliance works
Correction of the existing ramp gradient
Extended entrance foyer
Extension to the west, to accommodate additional office and storage capacity
Modernisation of the current façade.
Council will also be piloting a green façade as part of the refurbishment. The green façade is a win for the environment by filtering pollutants and carbon dioxide out of the air, as well as helping to cool the surrounding area. Native species will be selected for the green facade which will also help reduce the chance of graffiti.
The refurbishment will revitalise and future proof the building, supporting ongoing Scouting activity in the Mordialloc area, with a particular connection to the creek and boating heritage of the Mordialloc community.
At the May Council meeting Council endorsed the design and progression of this project. You can view the meeting minutes here.
You can access the Council endorsed plans here, and in the document library to the right.
