As part of the City of Kingston’s commitment to improving our foreshore, a concept plan has been prepared for beach access improvements at Showers Ave, Chelsea (please see the plan in the Document Library to the right). Council is currently seeking community feedback on the plan.
The proposed plan includes:
The construction of a new pedestrian boardwalk that connects the existing footpath to the beach
A viewing platform with a beach shower, foot wash, and seating
Ramp access to the beach from the boardwalk
Replacement of the existing brick wall with a timber handrail – noting parts of the wall retaining the dune may be left in place
Enclosed waste and recycling bins (existing bin station on the sand to be removed).
Next steps
The feedback gathered during the consultation process will help inform the final plans for the beach access improvements.
Following the public consultation process, it is anticipated that works will take 3-4 weeks, during which time pedestrian access to the beach from Showers Avenue may be limited. Ramp access to the beach is available at Foy Ave, Chelsea during this time.
Have your say We need your input to determine whether the local community supports or opposes the proposed changes. You can share your views by:
