Latest update:

August 2025: Kingston Council has made its own submission to the Victorian Government's consultation on the draft park plans for Sir William Fry Reserve.

Council has called for a range of additional improvements including:

  • playground upgrate
  • Greater clarity that the size of the skate park will meet a regional level
  • Relocation and upgrading of the park’s public toilets
  • Improvements to the reserve’s lake and drainage.

Council also raised concerns about the replacement land to be provided as an offset to areas of the park used for the station and future development. Read our statement: Kingston calls for fair deal on William Fry Reserve open space - City of Kingston)

SRLA consultation

The Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA) has released draft park plans for Sir William Fry Reserve next to Southland.

The park will be impacted by the SRL East project, with around 40% of the park to be used for the underground station site and above-ground development sites.

The park plans released show:

  • how the SRLA is planning to upgrade the remaining parts of the park, including replacing the existing skate park
  • the proposed open space to replace the parkland taken by the project
