An update on Snowdon Reserve, Cheltenham

As part of the Council's commitment to providing quality parks and open spaces for the whole community, we recently sought feedback on our proposed upgrade at Snowdon Reserve in Cheltenham. The proposed design aimed to enhance the landscape of Snowdon Reserve and create a safer, more inclusive environment for all residents.

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback as part of the consultation. We have prepared an updated illustrative plan of the final design which incorporates community feedback including:

  • Street front bollards have been replaced with a curved chain-link fence, featuring a dedicated gate entry for dog walkers to access the off-leash area
  • Curved seating for people that want to sit in the new dog on-leash area
  • Native flowering plants in the front area of the park
  • More space at the rear of the Reserve retained as turf for dog exercise

Project details

Early works will commence in March-2026 and will take approximately 3 weeks to complete, weather permitting.

During construction the reserve will be closed. Temporary fencing and signage will be installed around the work zones for the safety of the community. We apologise for any inconvenience and will minimise disruption wherever possible, while maintaining a safe work site.

Residential properties with private access gates will not have access to the Reserve during the works to ensure a safe work site.

Have your say on Snowdon Reserve, Cheltenham

As part of the Council's commitment to providing quality parks and open spaces for the whole community, we are proposing to upgrade Snowdon Reserve in Cheltenham.

In 2023, feedback was gathered about turning the Reserve into an enclosed dog park, with concerns raised about commercial dog walkers. In response, the proposed design includes fencing changes.

These fencing changes will not affect the number of dogs that can be under one person's control. As per the decision made at the June 2024 Council Meeting, Kingston's Councillors resolved that the number of dogs allowed under one person's control in an off-leash area will not be limited.

The proposed design aims to enhance the landscape of Snowdon Reserve and create a safer, more inclusive environment for all residents.

The design features include:

  • Native trees
  • Curved new seating
  • New granitic gravel path
  • Boulder, stone and rock stepper features
  • Native low shrubs, and grass planting
  • New bollard fence
