An update on Kingston's Street and Park Tree Operational Management Strategy

Thank you for taking part in the community consultation earlier this year on Kingston's Street and Park Tree Operational Management Strategy.

There was overall support for the strategy, with minor amendments made to:

  • Include reference to Council services available to elderly residents under the My Aged Care/Support at Home program.

Kingston's Street and Park Tree Operational Management Strategy was adopted by Council at the December Council Meeting in 2025.

We are committed to protecting and enhancing our urban forest for the many environmental and lifestyle benefits it brings to our community.

Our Street and Park Tree Operational Management Strategy guides how we manage the more than 90,000 trees located in Kingston’s streets and parks. These trees are a vital part of our urban landscape, and we know how much our community values them.

The current Strategy was developed in 2019 and is now due for review.

Since then, we have engaged with the community and adopted a number of important documents that influence how we plan for and care for our natural environment. Including:

These strategies provide important direction, and this review gives us the opportunity to align the Street and Park Tree Operational Management Strategy with our broader goals for biodiversity, climate resilience, and sustainable urban growth.

We also want to make the Strategy clearer and more useful for the community, for our staff, and for anyone interested in how we make decisions about street and park trees.

The revised Strategy will help guide better decision-making and improve the way we communicate our approach to managing these valuable public assets.
