The east side of the Charman Road strip of shops in Mentone (Between Balcombe Road and Collins Street) needs a new footpath.

As we will be undertaking construction works at the site, we plan to complement these works with a streetscape rejuvenation: with upgrades to landscaping, fencing and street furniture.

You could say that we're putting some charm into Charman Road!

Background

We understand that small shopping centres - strips of shops that have a mix of convenience retail, services and offices - contribute to the local economy and vibrant atmosphere of Kingston. They play an important social and economic role for communities in local areas, providing meeting places for nearby residents and encouraging community loyalty and support for local businesses.

Last year, we ran a public consultation asking for feedback to identify how we should roll out rejuvenation works across the city, to improve the look, feel and use of our local shopping strips. As part of this project, we identified a number of strips that need to have work undertaken for safety reasons, which includes Charman Road, Mentone, due to the poor condition of its footpath.

What we're planning

Council has committed $275,000 in this year's budget to replace the footpath and undertake rejuvenation works at the Charman Road Mentone Shopping Strip. We'll also be replacing the footpath at 266 Balcombe Road and 82 Charman Road.

We have created a draft concept plan and would love to hear what you think! Please complete our survey by Sunday 17 September 2023.

Before we get started on detailed design works we want to know if we have missed anything important. Please complete a survey below to have your say.
