The Arts, Events and Libraries Department at the City of Kingston is focused upon the delivery of industry leading contemporary programs, activities, and events. Through innovation and continuous improvement the department strives to provide high quality learning, recreational, social, and cultural outcomes for our community and we want your help to create a strategy which helps us to achieve this!

A bit about us

The Kingston Arts team run:

  • Three Arts and Cultural Centre's which provide stage and event spaces (Kingston City Hall, Kingston Arts Centre, Shirley Burke Theatre).
  • Three Art Galleries across Kingston Arts Centre and Shirley Burke Theatre
  • Support the development, management and commissioning of public art across Kingston.
  • Five community halls.
  • A program of performing arts, exhibitions, art and craft workshops.
  • Space for artist studios, and
  • Commercial venue hire.

Our Events team:

  • Organise four major festivals and events every year (Mordi Fest, Carols by Kingston, Pet Expo and Spring Fair).
  • Coordinate ten Citizenship Ceremonies a year.
  • Manage civic launch events (i.e. opening new buildings, sod turn events) across the city.
  • Provide industry-leading contemporary programs, activities, and events, and
  • Provide advice and support to community groups and individuals hosting their own events.

Our Libraries team:

  • Runs eight branches (at Chelsea, Cheltenham, Clarinda, Dingley Village, Highett, Parkdale, Patterson Lakes and Westall).
  • Puts on a diverse and inclusive range of programs and services including children’s programs and events such as Storytime, a Home Library Service, tech help and training, talks and events, support with family history and heritage information, craft and activities, and access to a huge range of e-resources such as Ancestry, Borrowbox and LinkedIn Learning, via our website.

  • Provides access to PCs, Wi-Fi, print and digital resources, quiet study spaces, community spaces for groups to meet, and our Westall branch has a recording studio available for hire.



We aim to make everyday special

Through our Arts, Events and Library teams, we offer a variety of programs, services and opportunities aimed at enriching lives, improving social connection, supporting emerging talent, learning new skills, and providing access to safe and welcoming spaces.

These range from Kingston Arts providing art and cultural programs and opportunities for communities living within and outside the city, to running an annual calendar of creative programs and events across our arts spaces, providing funding opportunities for creative initiatives, support for professional development and offering a range of arts-focused spaces for community use.

Our Festivals and Events Team is focused on the delivery of industry leading contemporary programs, activities, and events. Through innovation and continuous improvement, the team strives to provide high quality recreational, social and cultural outcomes for our community, and provides supports to community members participating in or putting on events.

And, Kingston Libraries provides library services to the local community in a professional, efficient, and inclusive manner. These services aim to satisfy the recreational, informational, creative, and social needs of the community. The service also owns the municipal history and heritage portfolio which preserves the rich history of the area.
