As part of our commitment to improving our open spaces in Kingston, we have developed a draft masterplan for Heatherton Park in Clayton South to guide the long-term planning for the site - and now we want to hear from you! Did we get it right?
Project background
Last year, we consulted with the community to understand how they currently use Heatherton Park and how they would like to use it in future. Detailed feedback revealed that the community desires:
Picnic areas and shelters
Active spaces and nature play
More trees and garden beds
Fenced dog park
More benches and seating options
Exercise and fitness equipment
More paths and walking/running circuits
More formalised car parking
Project details
The draft masterplan has been developed with input from the community and stakeholders to ensure the reserve meets the community's needs now and in the future. Key areas for improvement identified in the draft masterplan include:
Enhanced ecology (tree canopy coverage and biodiversity)
Identity (strengthen and showcase cultural heritage values and local context)
Connections and movement (paths and improved connections to surrounding areas)
Recreation (active spaces and a fenced dog park)
Reserve facilities (picnic areas, seating and parking)
Please note, as the site is a former landfill site which has been capped, there are limitations on what can be installed on site and where facilities can be located.
Consultation closed on Friday 29 March 2024.
