Speed limit change - Karen Street between Nepean Highway and Tennyson Street, Highett

In response to community concerns regarding the speed limit along Karen Street in Highett, Council is proposing to change the speed limit from 60 km/h to 50 km/h.

All speed limits in Victoria are governed by VicRoads and an important consideration in any speed limit change is the community’s feedback on the proposal.

Karen Street, which runs alongside Southland attracts a high number of vehicles, which can cause issues with neighbouring residential properties. To improve motorist awareness and compliance. Council proposes a reduction of speed limit in Karen Street between Nepean Highway and Tennyson Street, Highett , from 60km/h to 50km/h 

The lower speed limit will also improve vehicle safety and reduce severity, in the event of an accident.

In summary the changes to speed limits consist of the following;

• 50km/h along Karen Street between Nepean Highway and Tennyson Street, Highett

If the speed limit reduction goes ahead, signage displaying the new 50km/h speed limit will be installed.
