We are seeking feedback on a proposed public Pocket Park in the Moola Court bowl. As you may be aware, Pitard Group are nearing completion of their apartment development in Moola Court.

As part of the project, a public Pocket Park has been proposed which will offer an additional greenspace for all community members to enjoy, including:

  • Additional shade trees and vegetation.
  • Picnic tables.
  • A bench seat.
  • Open lawn area for relaxation and general play.
  • A granitic pathway through the site.
  • Removable bollards.

In order to provide the new open space, the bowl of the court will be converted from a ‘grey’ roadway into a planted ‘green’ space. This will require removal of four to five (4-5) car parking spaces. Two (2) designated parking spots are proposed adjacent to 2 Barker Street on Moola Court.

While some car parking will be removed, the proposed Pocket Park will help Council achieve ambitions for cooler streets, increase habitat for biodiversity and provide additional open space for residents.

We are keen to know what you think of the proposed Pocket Park and welcome your feedback and ideas. If the park progresses, it would be expected to be ready for community use in late 2024.

Discontinuance Process

In order to transform some of the court into a new pocket park, Council would need to undertake a formal Discontinuance process for part of Moola Court.

Kingston City Council notifies under the Local Government Act 1989 of its intention to discontinue part of Moola Court (Lot 1) for municipal purposes. Submissions are invited in writing by 5.00pm on Monday 13 May.

Submitters may request to appear in person or be represented at a Council meeting. Submissions become part of the public record, including any personal information, and will be published on the Council's website.

Following consideration of any submissions (if lodged), Council may resolve, or not to resolve, to discontinue that part of Moola Court and retain the land.
