We're reviewing Kingston's Planning Scheme and we want to know what you think of the key changes.

Background
Every four years Council is required to review its Planning Scheme to make sure it achieves:

  • The objectives for planning in Victoria
  • Overall land use planning trends
  • The objectives for Kingston set by the Council Plan.

The Review has been strongly informed by current strategic work - including the updated Housing Strategy and Neighbourhood Character Study via Amendment C203. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback to help inform these important documents shaping the future of our city!

What is the Review?
The Review is an audit of the Kingston Planning Scheme. The Review outlines current trends and anticipated future land use planning issues in Kingston. It also assesses how well our current Planning Scheme responds to these trends and sets out a plan to implement changes to respond to ‘gaps’ in the current Planning Scheme.

Recommendations of the Review
Key changes in the review include recommendations to:

  • Review and update structure plans in the Chelsea, Highett, Mordialloc, Moorabbin and Carrum activity centres, and work proactively with the Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA) to deliver positive planning outcomes for the community
  • Await the Minister’s decision on Amendment C203king (Kingston Housing Strategy and Neighbourhood Character Study)
  • Monitor and implement any relevant recommendations of the Urban Forest and Biodiversity Strategies currently being prepared by Council and implement any recommendations from the upcoming review of Council’s Significant Tree Register
  • Progress with work on the Kingston Employment Land Use Strategy and implement any recommendations into the Kingston Planning Scheme.
