Supporting local sustainable development

The City of Kingston is motivated to scale up the support we provide to our local development community, with the aim of achieving improved sustainability outcomes in our local built environment.

Did you know the building sector is Australia is responsible for one fifth of all emissions? Council has an ultimate target of net zero community emissions by 2030, and the building and construction industry can play a significant role in helping our community to reach this target.

To build awareness and understanding of sustainability in the industry, we are launching the SustainaBuild – Design Smarter, Build Better series. This series will offer technical training and networking events for industry, bringing together members of our local development community to share ideas and collectively work towards better sustainable building outcomes.


We want to hear from you

We want to hear from anyone with an invested interest in the development industry (including but not limited to local builders, developers, tradespeople, architects, draftspersons, real estate agents, consultants, and building product manufacturers) about areas related to sustainability that you need support with.

Whether that be a better understanding of sustainability planning requirements, improved technical knowledge on specific sustainable building initiatives (like electrification or Solar PV), advice on how to correctly install or check for sustainability measures on site, or support with recent or upcoming policy changes.


What will we do with your feedback?

Your feedback will go direct to Council's Ecologically Sustainable Design (ESD) Officers for consideration.

They will use this feedback to inform the SustainaBuild series, aimed at supporting the local development community in adopting and improving sustainability across the sector.
