Le Page Park Draft Masterplan

Project Update - February 2024:

The Le Page Park Master Plan was adopted by Council in July 2022. 

We are continuing to advocate for funding. However, we are undertaking pre-planning and minor works (i.e. new scoreboard, path improvements etc) in the meantime.  

Background

As part of Council's commitment to improve its open spaces, we have developed a masterplan for Le Page Park to guide the long-term planning for the site.

The masterplan has been finalised after significant input from the clubs and stakeholders at the site and the broader community to ensure the park continues to meet the needs of the community now and into the future.

Project Summary

Proposed key reserve improvements:

• Creation of a new 'active recreation' zone adjacent to the existing playground, including equipment and space for activities such as scooter/bike use, fitness, parkour, climbing and informal ball sports
• Relocation of the existing driveway to the south-west boundary of the reserve and formalisation of on-site and on-street car parking
• Enhancing pedestrian access and the overall path network throughout the reserve to improve circulation and connection between related facilities/spaces
• Provision of ancillary amenities that support and improve the function of the park, including but not limited to barbecue facilities, seating, shade, bike parking, etc.

Proposed key sporting improvements:

• Reconstruction of six tennis courts, including two all-abilities-style courts, hit up wall and hot shots courts in the existing location
• New single-story pavilion adjacent to the tennis courts to service/support the use of the courts for tennis activities and provide improved facilities for existing community groups
• Reposition of cricket nets in existing location to achieve greater north-south alignment (as per Cricket Victoria standards)
• Construction of a floodlit multi-sport hardcourt area, catering for netball, tennis, basketball and futsal.

• Cheltenham residents
• Other community members
• Local primary and secondary schools – Le Page Primary School, Cheltenham East Primary School, Our Lady of the Assumption Primary School, and Cheltenham Secondary College (all located within 1.5 kilometres of the Reserve)
• Le Page Tennis Club, including community groups that currently use the pavilion for their activities
• Le Page Park Cricket Club
• Cheltenham Panthers Junior Football Club
• Cheltenham Panthers Netball Club
