Kingston's Domestic Animal Management Plan (2026 - 2029)
Consultation has concluded
Let’s get tails wagging and whiskers twitching, help Kingston shape the future for our furry friends!
We’re renewing our Domestic Animal Management Plan (DAMP), which serves as a guide to manage domestic animal services in the Council, and we want to make sure it’s paws-itively perfect!
The Domestic Animals Act 1994 requires councils to have a Domestic Animal Management Plan (these plans only affect domestic cats and dogs).
Kingston City Council’s current 2021–2025 Domestic Animal Management Plan will expire this year, and you have the opportunity to help shape our 2026–2029 plan.
A DAMP outlines services, programs, and policies relating to animal management, animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, relevant Local Laws, and community education. Some of the areas covered include desexing and microchipping, effective control of dogs in public areas, dog on- and off-leash areas, nuisance dogs and cats, barking dogs, cat confinement, and the collection and disposal of animal excrement.
Help create an environment where people and pets can peacefully and safely co-exist within our community—have your say!
Whether you own a cat or dog, or you don’t, this plan affects all residents, and we’d love to hear from you.
