Background information

Council received a number of community requests for a fenced off-leash dog area at Chadwick Reserve.

As part of Council’s redevelopment of Chadwick Reserve, the existing off-leash dog area will be transformed into a 3000 square metre enclosed dog park (please see concept plan and images in the Documents library to the right), featuring:

  • new granitic sand and grass areas
  • dog agility equipment
  • dog litter bag dispensers
  • shelter, seating, bins and drinking fountains
  • new trees and shrubs.

The project will also provide new concrete paths to connect to the shared use path along the Mordialloc Bypass to the main oval and to the surrounding streets, Albert Place and Torquay Close.

In accordance with Council’s Urban Cooling Strategy (2020), this project will also include the planting of over 300 new trees in the areas immediately surrounding the off-leash dog park.

Council consulted with the community on the new off-leash dog area in November 2021. Thank you to all who provided feedback.

Key issues raised were:

  • Parking in Torquay Close
  • Creating a separate fenced area for small dogs

Your input helped shape the final version of the concept plan, which addresses these concerns.

The plan was approved at Kingston's 20 December 2021 Council Meeting.

The final plan can be found in the Documents library on the right-hand side of this page.
