Christina Terrace Dingley - Park Upgrade

To ensure the planning of Kingston's public open space continues to be well-considered and integrated with community interest, Council is seeking feedback on proposed park improvements at Christina Terrace Reserve in Dingley Village.

Council has taken on board earlier community feedback and developed two potential landscape concept plans.

Council is keen to hear from the community regarding their preferred option.

Project background
Council had investigated park upgrades in 2016 but put the project on hold to allow for investigations into the potential to retain the existing pond.

This took place in response to community interest in retaining the pond.
Unfortunately the audit found that the pond uses 1,200 KL of water each year and is simply not sustainable. Therefore the existing pond feature is proposed for removal.
We also heard that ‘play’ elements were not what the community needed in this park and that people would like some water element retained.

The City of Kingston has taken on board your feedback from the community survey (Oct 2017) and also engaged a Qualified Arborist to carry out an Arboricultural Assessment to provide recommendations on existing trees.
Based on these outcomes, Council has developed two Landscape Concept Plans for the Park Upgrade at Christina Terrace, Dingley Village.

Option 1 includes:

• a naturalistic water feature with rocks and native planting to attract frogs, birds and other wildlife
• removal of three existing Eucalyptus trees and planting of three new smaller trees better suited to the scale of the park and native planting below
• a shelter with picnic table and seating
• new natives/indigenous tree and garden bed planting around the perimeter of the reserve to attract wildlife
• path networks with arbors and climbing plants.

Option 2 includes:

• a formal water feature with rocks and native planting to attract frogs, birds and other wildlife
• retaining of three existing Eucalyptus trees and planting of native ground covers in large garden beds below
• a shelter with picnic table and seating
• new natives/indigenous tree and garden bed planting around the perimeter of the reserve to attract wildlife
• path networks with arbors and climbing plants.

Construction timeframes

It is anticipated work will take place in approximately May 2019.
