Our city is growing, which makes the provision of parking over the next few years, an important consideration.
To address this, we have conducted a thorough review of our existing Policy and are again seeking feedback from the community on a new draft of the Policy.
The Policy provides a framework for Kingston to manage parking across the municipality for the benefit of the whole community, for all road users and in a consistent, equitable and transparent way. The Policy sets out the main principles the Council uses to manage parking restrictions, parking permits, and other parking issues.
We reviewed a clause added into our 2015 Parking Policy which stated that:
No residential permits (allowing all-day parking on the street), will be provided to subdivided properties that increase the number of dwellings in the area.
This draft policy supports retaining this position, to make sure that on-street parking remains accessible in Kingston.
We are also proposing a suite of changes to the draft policy, including:
Detailing the location of Electric Vehicle charging stations
Specifying details around the provision of loading zones at new developments
Allowing paid parking being introduced on the foreshore
Providing on-street accessible parking in existing industrial areas
Removing specific criteria around a response rate for consultation feedback required for consideration
Amending the provision of permits under the legacy clause
Classifying exemptions to 1-hour parking restrictions and the provision of a carer's permit.
