Have your say on Kingston's draft Public Lighting Policy

Public lighting plays an important role in helping our community move around safely and comfortably after dark.

We’ve updated our Public Lighting Policy, which guides how lighting is designed, installed and managed across Kingston's streets and public spaces. The draft Policy aims to improve visibility, support the safe movement of pedestrians and vehicles, and help discourage illegal and antisocial activity.

It also outlines Council's approach to installing new and replacement lighting and managing public lighting across the municipality.

What does the Policy cover?

The draft Policy provides guidance on lighting in a range of public spaces, including:

• Residential streets

• Commercial, industrial and activity centre areas

• Laneways

• Parks, reserves and foreshore areas

• Feature lighting in public spaces

• Public buildings and Council car parks (external lighting).

Have your say - We'd like to hear what matters most to you when it comes to public lighting in Kingston.

We're seeking community feedback on the draft Policy to help inform the final version.

You can share your feedback by:

• Completing the online survey below.

• Making a written submission by emailing traffic@kingston.vic.gov.au or posting it to PO Box 1000, Mentone VIC 3194.

Consultation closes 4 December 2026.
