Why do we need a waste strategy?

We're developing a new Waste Strategy to guide our waste and resource management in Kingston over the next five years. Our growing population presents waste management challenges and the need for innovation in managing our waste now and in the future.

Additionally, the Victorian Government has set a target of diverting 80% of waste from landfills by 2030. We need a strategic approach to support this.

What will my feedback be used for?

Feedback from the consultation will be considered and used to inform Kingston's Waste Strategy, including targets, actions, and timelines.

Will my kerbside bins or collections change?

At this stage, there are currently no proposed changes to the standard size and collection frequencies of the garbage, recycling, and food and garden bins. Residents will still need to opt-in for a food and garden bin.

However, it is worth noting that the Victorian Government's goal is to achieve mandatory separation of glass by 2027 and food and garden waste by 2030 through the introduction of a glass collection service and a food and garden waste bin (green lid) for all households.
