Consultation has concluded

As part of Council's commitment to providing improved sporting facilities at G.R. Bricker Reserve, we are currently planning for the roll-out of several improvements identified within the 2019 Master Plan

These proposed improvements include:

Redevelopment of the sports pavilion to meet growing demand for the tenant clubs

Replacement of the existing athletics storage shed

Installation of new sports lighting to the oval

Upgrade of the cricket nets in a similar location to include an additional lane

• Upgrade and expansion of car parking facilities at the reserve to accommodate demand

Improved pathways and wayfinding will also form a significant part of the master plan improvements, as will additional tree planting and garden beds throughout the reserve.

This $8.94M project is jointly funded by Council and the State Government ($3.3M).

Council has been working closely with the Sports Clubs and Dog Obedience Club on the current and future needs for the pavilion redevelopment. A clear vision and principles for the project has been jointly developed by the clubs.

Timing of Works

Car Park Upgrades

Our works will include improved and expanded car parking to meet the existing and ongoing needs of GR Bricker Reserve users.

They will proceed in two stages:

  • Stage 1 has been completed and included an expanded one-way crushed rock carpark along Rowans Rd which has been designed around the existing site conditions and to minimise tree removals. Replacement tree planting has occurred within the reserve, to offset those that required removal.
  • Stage 2 includes the formalisation of the existing car park following construction of the new pavilion.

Pavilion Development

Council is currently working with reserve users and external consultants on the detailed design for a new pavilion to be located on a similar footprint to the existing building.

The pavilion will include facilities for the dog club and sports clubs that use the reserve, as well as community space.

The existing storage shed adjoining the athletics track will also be replaced to meet the needs of the athletics club.

Council is anticipating these works will be completed in the 2023-24 financial year.

Other improvements

We are also working through a number of other improvements for the reserve. These include:

  • Improved pedestrian pathways (underway)
  • Cricket net renewal (underway)
  • Sports oval fence upgrade (underway)
  • Installation of sports field lighting on the existing oval (completed)
