Background

Kingston is home to many vibrant local shopping precincts, which bring people together, offering connections with traders and a strong sense of local identity, including Parkdale.

The new Parkdale Station and elevated rail has transformed how locals use and move around Parkdale.

Last year, we asked the community and local traders to help us plan the future of the Parkdale Shopping Strip.

More than 750 traders, residents and visitors took part in our first stage of engagement, sharing what they value about Parkdale and what they would like to see improved.

You told us you value Parkdale’s village feel, local businesses and strong sense of community, and highlighted priorities including more greenery, outdoor dining, seating, and a crossing near the roundabout to the public toilets.

Draft concept plan

You shared your ideas – we listened!

Your feedback has helped shape the draft concept plan (in document menu), which includes:

• safer pedestrian access near the roundabout, including a realigned crossing to improve safety and accessibility
• more trees and indigenous plantings to create a greener and more attractive shopping strip
• new seating areas, including accessible benches and more opportunities for outdoor dining
• safer and easier walking routes, with improved footpaths that consider parking and existing infrastructure
• feature paving and lighting to create a more welcoming streetscape
• improved drainage and new rain gardens to help manage stormwater and reduce local flooding.

What happens next?

Your feedback will help us finalise the plans before we move towards delivering these improvements.

The final plan is expected to be completed in early 2027, with works anticipated to commence in April 2027.
